You Drive Me Crazy Tight Shorts - Comedy Vickie Rose Sampson -Director/Producer Wendy Fishman - Writer - Co-producer You Drive Me Crazy is a dark comedy/thriller about a GPS who takes revenge on a cheating husband. Longer synopsis:A dark comedy thriller, “You Drive Me Crazy” is a cautionary tale about our obsessive reliance on technology. A seemingly ordinary guy, Glen, is driving when his GPS voice gives him directions that don’t quite add up. When he tries to follow his own path, the GPS computer shockingly takes control berating him for some of his life choices. Things go from bad to worse when Glen winds up in the last place he’d ever want to be. Victoria Sampson is an award-winning producer/writer/director, film and sound editor. With over 201 Sound credits, including sound editing on Academy Award winning films for Sound, “Speed” and “The River,” she has also won 4 Golden Reel Awards and an Emmy for her sound work. Since 1992, Victoria also created and taught Post Production Sound for Directors and Editors at UCLA, USC, Video Symphony, AFI and often guest lectures at colleges and universities. I like films that challenge people - make them think, laugh, wonder, and talk afterward! You Drive Me Crazy came out of a real incident that Wendy (the writer) and I experienced using WAZE to get to a screening. I was listening to WAZE and Wendy told me "Don't listen to that. Just go up to Sunset and turn right!" I insisted that I HAD to listen to the WAZE lady! And we just exaggerated it from there. How far until technology takes us over? This is a funny and scary exploration of that question! |

Driven Crazy Drama Feature (Foreign) Kerstin Siehl When a call girl and her driver skip town to find a new beginning, they must learn the truth about one another before their crimes destroy them. DRIVEN CRAZY starts as a dark, headlight-blinding, white-line staring road movie, about two of the world's forgotten underbelly people who try to flee the cesspit city and make a new life for themselves in the countryside. A pregnant abused hooker NATASHA and a sad, confused junkie PAUL go on a desperate drive to escape the vengeance of a psychotic drug dealer. In the countryside they discover their damaged, fated love-affair and are forced to face the awful truth in a crashing vortex of violence when the road finally runs out. There can only be one survivor. Driven Crazy explores how gullible human beings overwhelmed by life can no longer distinguish between the truth and lies during their emotional arguments. |
TangoX Art-house Short (Foreign) Alessandra Guarino Ingredients: an old accordion, a musician, a dancer, wardrobe with mirrors, rays of sun... A musician is getting ready to play a Tango. A dancer is getting ready to dance a Tango. A Tango is such a serious thing. A Tango is such a powerful thing. So much that something could happen if you don't close the wardrobe doors carefully... Alessandra Guarino 7bde49eb1e headshot Always passionate about all kinds of art (but also in technology), I dedicated my whole life to dance, playing and composing music, singing and creating in different ways. Realizing videos and short films has become for me the most exciting form to express myself and to bring life to “something”, merging all the things that I love to do. I try to do my best, doing almost everything on my own, with my poor devices... for now... :-) |
The Spirit Seam Animated (Domestic) Ashley Gerst The Spirit Seam is a short animated film about a little girl, Pollywog, and her Pap-Paw. Located in an Appalachain coal-mining town in the 1950s, the film takes the audience through the daily life of both characters. At the start of the film, the characters eat breakfast together and then travel to their respective locations- Pollywog is dropped off at school, and Pap-Paw clocks into work at the Hiraethsburg coal mine. Throughout the film they experience the simple pleasures of rural Appalachian life: catching fireflies, fishing, catching frogs, and birthdays. Pap-Paw and Pollywog's bond is incredibly strong. In fact, they are inseparable until illness threatens to fracture their small family. This film is an homage to Gerst's maternal side and their origins working in Southwestern Pennsylvania. It is a piece rooted not only in family roots and origin, but in grief over the loss of family members as well. The Spirit Seam combines a mixture of animation mediums. The characters have been 3D modeled and animated in Audodesk Maya while the elemental effects are created in the 2D Animation software Toonboom Harmony. The sets are created physically, and are created in a variety of ways: 3D printing, embroidery, felted yarn, and sculptural techniques. Ashley Gerst is a 2D and 3D animator living in Brooklyn NY. She holds a BFA in Digital Arts from Cleveland Institute of Art and an MFA in Computer Art from School of Visual Arts. In addition to her professorial work at William Paterson, Ashley is a freelance animator working for a variety of production companies and clients in the Greater New York City area. She has created animation and VFX for broadcast commercials, TV shows, and documentaries for AMC, VH1, and BET. Some of her clients include Fast Company, Behance, Credit Suisse, Nivea, Nissan, Afrin, Red Bull, Hudson Media, CBS, Nurturing Press, iNomadics, Redwood Living and more. Ashley Gerst was also responsible for animating the title sequence for the 2018 feature film 'The Con is On'. The film, distributed by Grindhouse/Lionsgate, is a heist comedy directed by James Haslam and stars Uma Thurman and Tim Roth. She is currently finishing an animated short film titled the Spirit Seam. The film, taking place in 1952, follows a little girl named Pollywog and her PapPaw as they experience daily life in a small coal mining town in Appalachia. The final project combines a mixture of mediums: 3D animated character, 2D animated effects, and physically constructed sets. The sets were created with a combination of 3D printing, fiber arts, and carved sculpture. The Spirit Seam's concept art and set construction has been featured in the article “Explore the World of Fine-Art Animation” in Professional Artist Magazine's December/January 2017-2018 issue. The sets and embroidery for the film were also in a solo show at Misbits Gallery in 2018 in Oxford Mississippi. Other animated films created by Ashley Gerst have been screened nationally in several film festivals including Dam Short Film Festival, Tucson Slow Food and Film Festival, Standing Rock Film Festival (Third Place Award). Her films have also been exhibited in the Cleveland Museum of Art and featured in Cleveland's local newspaper: The Plain Dealer, LA Weekly and Makezine. |

Noblemen LGBT (Foreign) Vandana Kataria It is winter in a prestigious all boys' boarding school, where children continue to practice age-old rituals and codes bound by years of hierarchy. Shay is picked on constantly, the main perpetrators being Arjun, the tall athletic sports captain, and his best friend Baadal. Shay and Pia, the spunky daughter of the new Junior School Principal are cast as Bassanio and Portia in the Founder's Day production of Merchant of Venice. Murali, the charismatic drama teacher unknowingly adds salt to Baadal's wounds by casting him as Shay's understudy. Indignant, Baadal vows to get Shay's part at any cost and turns to his buddy Arjun for help. Events take a sinister turn when Shay walks in on Arjun, Baadal, and their cronies on a debauched night. Vandana Kataria graduated from the National Institute of Design. She began her career in films as a production designer working on films such as 'Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (2008)', 'Shanghai (2012)', and 'Detective Byomkesh Bakshi (2015)'. She was selected to be a part of the Berlinale Talent Campus in 2016, and directed the music video 'Jungli Sher' for Indian rap sensation DIVINE, shot entirely on an iPhone 6S in the same year. Vandana has in the past also directed television commercials and is making her debut as a writer and director with a feature length film titled 'Noblemen'. |
TAMING WILD: PURA VIDA Documentary (Foreign) Elsa Sinclair Two Costa Rican horses rescued from lives of pain and hardship, two horse trainers on a mission to understand new beginnings and connection through movement. A country to cross from the Pacific to the Atlantic ocean, over mountains, through valleys, across rives, and embraced by Costa Rican jungle. Could this shared journey be enough to build trust between horse and human? Could horses from a history such as theirs learn to trust anew? Elsa Sinclair is a professional horse trainer and documentary filmmaker who brings to the horse world a unique and powerful perspective. Gathering together knowledge from a variety of equine disciplines Elsa created a brand new style of training she calls Freedom Based Training. Her style is now popular around the world. Most recently, she and a student of hers embarked on an ambitious project, walking across the country of Costa Rica with two rescue horses, training them in motion while filming everything that happened along the way. Once again pushing the limits of what a horse and human partnership can really be. |
Viaticum Loose Shorts Lara Daans Liz Newey, a recovering alcoholic, is in the midst of her early morning recitation of the Twelve Steps, when she's interrupted by a phone call. Her father, Frank Newey, estranged for twenty-three years, is on his death bed in a Toronto hospital. Torn, Liz arrives at her morning waitressing shift but ultimately decides to ask her boss for three days off. She needs to tackle “Step Nine”- make amends – of the AA program. Her boss and AA sponsor, Edith understands all too well. At the hospital, Father Warren, a young inexperienced priest with a past, offers Frank the sacrament of Viaticum, the giving of the last rites. Frank reluctantly agrees but is more concerned about the priest helping him to complete a letter to his daughter Liz. Liz, riddled with disturbing childhood memories, including that of the suicide of her older brother, drives on determined to see her father before he passes. A near accident derails her and she finds herself seated at a roadside bar. As Liz contemplates the drink before her, the priest tries to complete the last rites but Frank, staring at mortality, interrupts and asks the priest to hear his confession. The struggle against time for both father and daughter is real. Regrettably, Father Warren does not succeed in completing the sacrament. As Liz hurries to her father's hospital room, a deflated Father Warren, exits the hospital only to be brutally attacked by a druggie. The sacred viaticum case is scattered about and the letter to Liz tumbles from the priest’s jacket pocket. Liz, alone with her deceased father attempts to make peace with him but peace is elusive. She numbly exits the hospital and surprisingly finds all that she emotionally sought. Lara commenced her career as a ballet dancer performing professionally at a very young age. She also began figure skating competitively at a young age, the perfect sport for someone who loved music and loved performing. She studied sciences at McGill University and the University of Toronto but decided to abandon a medical career and pursue acting. After studying acting in NYC, with many of the greats, Lara has gone on to star in both theatre and film/television productions. Select credits include, Hearts of War (2010) with Nina Dobrev; A Dark Truth (2012) starring opposite Andy Garcia and Ice Girls (2016) starring Natasha Hendstridge. She won a best actress award for her starring role opposite Kim Coates in the feature film “King of Sorrow”. During this time she subsequently worked on a number of film productions in various capacities. From development to post production supervision, Lara honed her skills learning all aspects of filmmaking. Production credits include Woman Wanted (1999), The Poet (2010) and Hit It (2013), With twenty years of acting credits behind her, and the success of her first produced screen play ICE GIRLS, a personal film drawing upon her figure skating experience, Lara embraced the opportunity to move behind the camera to direct the short film Viaticum. Viaticum is Lara’s directorial debut. Striving for artistic control that is the hallmark of a great artist, Lara sees directing as the ultimate position from which her stories can be told with the greatest amount of truth and integrity. Her curiosity and desire to tell the truth are what drives her career choices. Lara looks forward to learning evermore about the art of cinema and to telling great stories. |
